PROFESSIONAL PRACTICES

AVRA LEODAS
&
PENINA MEISELS

Saturday
February 6, 2010
9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Are you ready to introduce your work to the market place but don’t know where to begin? This one-day seminar will introduce you to a range of marketing skills that every artist must cultivate in order to become successful: developing a resume, putting together a publicity packet, making professional contacts, websites, and more. From local, regional and national exhibition opportunities, to entering shows, to finding a gallery that is appropriate for your work, we will cover the basics of self-promotion for artists.
This workshop will continue with a presentation by Penina Meisels on photographing your artwork. She will address digital cameras and other photo equipment, lighting and background options. She will also demonstrate photographing and working with digital images on the computer for many practical applications.
Please bring one small piece to photograph and your resume to this workshop.

Avra Leodas has been a studio artist for more than 25 years, exhibiting her ceramic artwork nationally. She has been the owner and director of Santa Fe Clay since 1998.

Penina Meisels’ career in photography spans 25 years, servicing clients such as Williams-Sonoma, Ralph Lauren, Hewlett-Packard, and Federal Express, to mention a few. She has won the coveted Addy Award and has work in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian.

TRAVEL AND CLIMATE

Santa Fe is one of the few state capitals with limited airline service. However, most major airlines serve Albuquerque International Sunport, 65 miles south, and shuttle bus transportation is available from the airport to downtown Santa Fe. The brand new New Mexico Rail Runner has regular scheduled trains between Albuquerque and Santa Fe as well. In this high desert climate, at 7,000 feet, our summer days are usually sunny and warm with daytime temperatures rarely exceeding 85 degrees. During July and August, we look forward to brief and dramatic thunderstorms and evening temperatures dropping to below 60 degrees. Our facility is within walking distance of many excellent restaurants and the major museums and galleries for which this town is famous.

THE GALLERY

Our elegant 1,100 square foot gallery hosts monthly exhibitions displaying the best national and international ceramic artwork. Our shows include one person, two person and group exhibitions in which we honor the leaders in the field and introduce emerging artists. Please check our website at www.santafeclay.com for upcoming gallery events and our current show.
