LASER TONER DECALS

MAGGIE MAE BEYELER

2 different date options:
Friday, September 24, 1:00 - 4:00 pm
Friday, October 8, 1:00 - 4:00 pm

I
n this one day workshop, students will learn the latest and easiest decal application for any glazed surface. Discover what types of images work best, how to print decals, how best to apply and fire them, where to get decal paper and what type of printer is needed. Bring finished, glazed pieces to work with. Flat surfaces work best, so open bowls, plates, or tiles are preferred, but any glazed surface can be used. If students have a particular image they want to work with, it can be emailed to Maggie, who will print the decal for $2/page. Otherwise, just bring your glazed pieces and there will be various sample decals for experimentation.

After receiving her MFA in ceramics from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1993, Maggie set up her studio in the high desert outside Santa Fe, NM, where she makes both functional and decorative work, including tableware and tile. The focus of her work highlights a continuing interest in the textural surface possibilities of clay, along with forms and imagery that reference her interest in the natural world. Maggie utilizes both slabs and wheel-thrown forms to construct work which is loose, lively and visually interesting.

Tuition: $50

PAPER CLAY FOR SCULPTURE

JUDY NELSON-MOORE

Saturday & Sunday
November 13 & 14
9:30 am - 4:30 pm

M
ake bigger pieces, add long, thin extensions, build wet clay on dry clay, break off pieces and put them back in other places...these are just a few of the unconventional ways of working that are possible with paper pulp added to clay. This hands-on workshop will explore the use of paper pulp and nylon fiber as additives in clay to increase the green strength. This allows us to break rules and achieve forms not possible with regular clay. Participants learn how to make paper clay, and explore traditional and non-traditional clay-forming techniques. Judy will demonstrate techniques for making fired and unfired paper clay sculptures, and participants will work in a variety of methods on creations of their own. Participants should come with a spirit of exploration, bringing their favorite clay tools and a straight-blade exacto-style knife. Handbuilt pieces made in this workshop can be fired in the same manner as regular clay or may be left unfired and finished with cold surfacing.

Judy Nelson-Moore has been an artist in clay for over 40 years, and has simultaneously held a business career in software consulting. Her current sculptural focus is on fired clay which has been exhibited locally and nationally. She has taught numerous workshops in CA, CO and NM, and she is the webmaster for the New Mexico Potters and Clay Artists.
