Investigate various devices associated with pots that pour, including pulled, wheel thrown, and hand built spouts. Pouring pots have a specific function, and the execution of their parts is essential to the performance of that function. Shape, placement, and size all play a part in how well a pouring pot will decant. Forms for investigation will include pitchers and creamers, ewers, and teapots. Demonstrations will begin with simple alterations to basic forms, and grow in complexity by combining several parts to make more elaborate pottery forms. |

This
course provides students with the opportunity to make pottery to be
fired in a private, off-site wood kiln. Students will make functional
pots on the wheel that address specific concerns relating to the wood-firing
process, such as clay bodies, mark-making, slips, and glazes for wood-salt-soda
ware. This course will culminate in a wood firing this Spring.

Our
handbuilding and sculpture classes focus on developing and refining clay
forming skills and exploring form and surface for both functional and
sculptural work. Basic construction techniques such as coil, slab, and
assemblage will be covered, along with surface treatment, texture and
glazing. This class is structured for all levels of experience and will
combine group demonstrations with individual attention from the instructor. |

|
Wheel
throwing classes concentrate on the basics of the craft for beginners
as well as those with throwing experience who want to improve their skills.
Fundamentals of throwing, trimming and glazing techniques will be taught
for many functional forms including bowls, plates, mugs and pitchers.
Demonstrations and technical information are provided with attention to
individual needs. This class allows students to work within its structure
at all levels of experience. |

Have
you ever wanted to make your own dinnerware without a wheel? This class
will focus on making functional ware using a variety of molds for slab
construction. This method can be particularly efficient for making multiples.
Emphasis will be placed on integrating form, function and surface to make
useful objects for your home. |
