Various handbuilding techniques will be demonstrated, and wheel throwers are also welcome.

HANDBUILDING
WITH
MOLDS

All level class

Thursdays
1:00 - 4:00 pm

MAGGIE BEYELER

Lab fee: $20

Santa Fe Clay offers a variety of molds from which students can build ceramic pieces. This class will guide students through the process of using these molds to create unique, expressive pieces that reach beyond the initial potential of standard molds. Students will use prefabricated molds as a starting point, a tool from which more complex or innovative forms can be created. In addition, students will learn to make their own bisque molds to create pieces not attainable by standard mold forms.

POURING POTS
Advanced Wheel Throwing

Previous throwing experience required

6 week class, tuition: $200

Fridays
9:30 am - 12:30 pm

MIKE JABBUR

Investigate various devices associated with pots that pour, including pulled, wheel thrown, and hand built spouts. Pouring pots have a specific function, and the execution of their parts is essential to the performance of that function. Shape, placement, and size all play a part in how well a pouring pot will decant. Forms for investigation will include pitchers and creamers, ewers, and teapots. Demonstrations will begin with simple alterations to basic forms, and grow in complexity by combining several parts to make more elaborate pottery forms.

FIGURATIVE SCULPTURE

All level class

Tuesdays
9:30 am - 12:30 pm

RICHARD
GARRIOTT-STEJSKAL

In this class, students will sculpt the full figure, busts and sections of the body. Proportion, gesture and expression of the human form will be explored. Scale can vary and surface treatments will be considered for sculptural forms.

WOOD-FIRED POTS:
Integrating Form & Surface

All level class

Mondays
6:00 - 9:00 pm

SEAN FAIRBRIDGE

This course provides students with the opportunity to make pottery to be fired in a private, off-site wood kiln. Students will make functional pots on the wheel that address specific concerns relating to the wood-firing process, such as clay bodies, mark-making, slips, and glazes for wood-salt-soda ware. This course will culminate in a wood firing this Spring.

Sean will make arrangements with students privately for participation in the wood firing. He will collect a $30 lab fee and $.03/cu. inch firing fee.
