This class will focus on sculpting the figure in clay working from a live model. A variety of building methods will be explored. Many of these construction techniques have been derived from pottery practices, such as building with coils or slabs. In addition, traditional methods of building with armatures and working solid will be demonstrated. Students will complete several sculptures in a variety of scales. Surfaces for completed sculptures, both fired fired and post-fired will be discussed and all work will be fired.

 

 


GLAZE APPLICATION

Overcome your fear of glazing and discover ways to make glazes work for you. This class is designed to demystify high-fire glazes. We will use Santa Fe Clay’s own studio glazes to experiment with glaze testing methods and application techniques to create exciting and unique surfaces for cone 10 stoneware and porcelain. Class time will include testing, discussion of basic glaze materials, and evaluation of results. Students will need to have bisqued work to use for glaze experimentation.

Have you ever wanted to make your own dinnerware without a wheel? This class will focus on making functional ware using a variety of molds for slab construction. This method can be particularly efficient for making multiples. Emphasis will be placed on integrating form, function and surface to make useful objects for your home.

Our handbuilding and sculpture classes focus on developing and refining clay forming skills and exploring form and surface for both functional and sculptural work. Basic construction techniques such as coil, slab, and assemblage will be covered, along with surface treatment, texture and glazing. This class is structured for all levels of experience and will combine group demonstrations with individual attention from the instructor.

Our wheel throwing classes concentrate on the basics of the craft for beginners and as well as those with throwing experience who want to improve their skills. Fundamentals of throwing, trimming and glazing techniques will be taught for many functional forms including bowls, plates, mugs and pitchers. Demonstrations and technical information are provided with attention to individual needs. This class allows students to work within its structure at all levels of experience.

   
   
 

All class tuitions are $210 per seven week session
Tuition includes 25 lbs. of clay and unlimited
access to the studio during regular studio hours:
Mondays - Thursdays 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
Fridays 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
Saturdays 9:00 am - 7:00 pm
Sundays 12:00 noon - 5:00 pm


CLASS/WORKSHOP REFUND POLICY
If a student drops a class up to seven days before the start of the session or two weeks before a short term workshop, tuition will be refunded except for a $60.00 (or $20 for Children’s Workshops) non-refundable registration fee. NO REFUNDS WILL BE MADE AFTER THIS DATE. No refunds will be given for missed classes. Make-ups may be arranged in a similar class, during the same session, if space permits.


 
SENIOR DISCOUNTS
Senior citizens (62 years and older) will receive a 10% discount on tuition for any seven week class.
